Additional: Fern Marie Gallagher, 90, a resident of Ottobein St. Marys, Retirement Community, St. Marys, and a former resident of Fort Wayne, Ind., died Tuesday, Nov. 7, 2000, at the retirement community following a long illness. She was born Sept. 17, 1910, in Wayne County, the daughter of John and Edith (Shade) Beieler. On June 19, 1936, she married Ralph Gallagher, who survives at Otterbein St. Marys. Survivors include a daughter, Gretchen (Floyd) Hughes of Rochester, N.Y., a son Ralph (Ann) Gallagher of Missouri City, Texas; a sister, Irene (Robert) Wepler of Wooster; a brother Raymond (Norma) Beieler of Elyria; a sister-in-law, Gladys Beieler of Orrville; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister, Marlene Kay Beieler, and a brother, Harry Beieler. Mrs. Gallagher was a graduate of Smithville High School in Smithville, Bowling Green State University, where whe earned a bachelors' degree and Ball State University in Muncie, Ind., where she earned a master's degree. She was a retired elementary school teacher at the Fort Wayne Public schools and managed the bookstore at the former Fort Wayne Bible College, now know as Taylor University. She was a member of the Wayne Street United Methodist Church in St. Marys. She also participated in Women's groups at Bethany United Methodist Church in Celina. She enjoyed needlepoint and craftwork. Funeral services will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at the Miller Funeral Home in St. Marys with the Rev. David Woodyard and the Rev. Don Ricard officiating. A graveside committal service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Smithville Cemetery in Smithville. Friends may call one hour prior to the funeral service Saturday at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be directed to Otterbein St. Marys Retirement Community.
