Additional: Joel W. Hoge, 84, of 525 S. Mill St., New Knoxville, died Monday, June 29, 1992 at 9:07 a.m. in the emergency room at Joint Township District Memorial Hospital, St. Marys. He was born June 2, 1908, in New Knoxville, the son of Herman H. and Mary (Oelrich) Hoge. On August 31, 1935, he married Sarah Luella Rider, who survives. Survivors also include two daughters, Mrs. Clark (Juli) Froning of Sidney and Mrs. Sidney (Marta) John of Maumee; five grandchildren; two great-granddaughters; one brother, Oliver Hoge of New Knoxville; and five sisters, Rebecca Tschantz of Bluffton, Esther Dalton of Bremerton, Washington, Marcella Hoelscher of South Bend, Indiana, Ella Kuck of Sidney and Olga Hartwig of Oakland, California. He was preceded in death by one son, Jonathon, who died in 1954, two brothers, Arthur Hoge and Gustave Hoge and two sisters, Laura Lageman and Bertha Roser. An architectural engineer, Mr. Hoge was the retired president of Hoge Lumber. He was a 1924 graduate of New Knoxville High School and a 1930 graduate of Ohio State University, Columbus. He was a member of the First United Church of Christ, New Knoxville. An avid golfer, he was a member of the Senior Swingers Golf Club, Sidney. He was also a member of the New Knoxville Civic Association, New Knoxville Historic Association, Auglaize County Library Board and the Ohio State University Alumni Association. Funeral services will be Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at the First United Church of Christ, New Knoxville, with Rev. David Hunt officiating. Burial will be in Pilger Ruhe Cemetery, New Knoxvile. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Vornholt-Miller Fuenral Home, New Knoxville. Memorial contributions may be made to the Church Radio Broadcast Fund.
