Mr. Lietz was born on July 1, 1921 in New Bremen, the son of Herman C. and Alice (Heil) Lietz. On April 3, 1975, he married Marjorie (Gieseke) Conradi, who survives in New Bremen. Mr. Lietz served in the U.S. Army Signal Corps during World War II and was self employed as a wood craftsman for many years. A member of St. Paul United Church of Christ in New Bremen, he was also very active in the Boy Scouts as a leader. A founding member of the New Bremen Historic Association, Mr. Lietz and his wife were instrumental for many years in publishing "The Towpath", its quarterly newsletter. Mr. Lietz served informally as a village archivist as he for more than a half century through photographs, then movies, and later videos, documented life in New Bremen. He and his wife for years could be seen at various events taking place in the village, recording them for posterity. In 1983, Mr. Lietz wrote in the New Bremen Sesquicentennial book that "in 1935 my parents gave me a dark room for Christmas. It was a whole new world for me, learning to take and develop pictures. My mother encouraged me to photograph New Bremen because her Uncle Fred Gilberg had enjoyed the hobby." Mr. Lietz continued to so for 51 years, taking thousands of pictures of New Bremen life and activities as well as home movies and videos. In the sesquicentennial book, there is a 10 page sampling of his photos running from 1935 up through until the book was published. He continued with his hobby for another 13 years. Mr. Lietz and his wife used the photos and slides to develop multi-media shows on New Bremen history they presented for years to school children and civic organizations. For their efforts, Mr. Lietz and his wife were named Bremenfest Parade grandmarshals in 1989. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Paul United Church of Christ, the Rev.
