Additional: Vernon "Bud" Sommer, 81, 69 S. Hanover St., Minster, died at 11:10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept.6, 2000, at Heritage Manor Nursing Home in Minster. He was born July 27, 1919, in Minster to Frederick and Pauline (Fortman) Sommer. On Sept. 1, 1943, he married Marjorie Howell, who survives. Additional survivors include three sons, Michael (Pamela) Sommer and Gregory (Kathy) Sommer, both of Minster, and Douglas Sommer of St. Marys; one daughter-in-law, Kendra Sommer of Minster; 11 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Martha Massing of Minster. He was preceded in death by one son, Steven Sommer; four brothers; and four sisters. Mr. Sommer was the former owner and operator for 41 years of Bud's Pizza in Minster. He was a member of St. Augustine Church in Minster, life member of Minster K of C, F.O.E. 1391 in Minster, Knights of St. John in Fort Loramie, and was a former member and stockholder of Arrowhead Park Golf Club in Minster. He was active as a Democratic Central Committee member for 25 years. He was also active as a member of the Board of Directors Commnity Lanes, Walkup Country Club in Ft. Loramie, Cataract Fire Co. in Minster and the Minster Athletic Boosters. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Augustine Church in Minster with the Rev. William Hoyng officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. The family will receive family and friends from 2-8 p.m. Friday and 9-9:30 a.m. Saturday at Hogenkamp Funeral Home in Minster. Memorial contributions may be made to the Mercer/Darke County Hospice and Minster Area Life Squad.
