Goshen is located in the southeast part of the county and was organized in 1836 from Wayne Twp. The heads of the Miami River and the Scioto River are located here. Approximately one fourth of the township is prairie or black muck, and in the early 1800's the whole township was covered by water. The Muchanippe Creek was deepened to drain much of the land and make it tillable. The balance of the land is gravel clay loam.
The village of New Hampshire was laid out by John KINDLE in 1836, covering 16 acres. Hiram NORTH started the first store, Orin NORTH built the first steam mill, and a second store was started by J.J. HUTCHINSON. By 1880 the village housed two hotels, two stores, two blacksmith shops, one grocery store, a grist and saw-mill, and one physician, Dr. S. J. POLLOCK, one Methodist Church and one Baptist Church. One gravel road led from Roundhead to Wapakoneta.
